This dial is based on the A-11 dial used in US issued watches to pilots in World War II. Elgin and Waltham both made this watch for the US but did not put their name on the dial.
This face is based directly on a physical vintage dial is it's as authentic as you can get.
I'm pretty happy with it as it's my first Pebble watch face.
Gruen was a very popular watch brand in the first 1/2 of the 20th century. They made many significant contributions to the watch world in general yet many people are not familiar with the name. I've watched and waited for someone to come up with a Gruen dial, and have waited as long as I could stand. It's time to make my own.
My choice is based on a Gruen 1944 Veri-Thin Pan American model. These were military style watches with a 24 hour dial on them. The inner ring on the dial has the military hour markers 13 to 24. It's classic Gruen watch.
If you want to learn more about these, uhm, mechanical, watches, you can visit the site http://www.GruenWristwatches.com where you'll find a large amount of free historical and research information and links to other Gruen related sites. Who knows, you may like them enough to get a real Pan American .
The original concept for mypebblefaces.com was based on RichardG's AWSOME Pebble Concepts site.
Thanks to Otto Greenslade (Chaotic) @chaotictm for the Pebble Watch artwork and many thanks to the Pebble team @pebble for the watch that we all love.
